Professional Training

PADI Divemaster

10–12 days from 18 years €1000 Professional

Overview

If you are interested in a full- or part-time diving career, this is your first step on the professional ladder. You develop your knowledge to a professional level and learn how to supervise diving activities and assist with divers in training.

As a PADI Divemaster you guide, mentor and look after other divers — in a far-flung dive destination or at a shop in your home town. Minimum age is 18.

Prerequisites

You must be at least 18 years old and a certified PADI Rescue Diver, hold an approved CPR and first aid qualification from within the last 24 months, and carry a medical clearance to dive signed by a physician within the past year.

You need 40 logged dives to start the course and 60 to earn the certification. If you are short, we can build the missing dives into your schedule here.

Theory

Eight knowledge development segments: physics, physiology, equipment, the diving environment, decompression theory and the RDP, divemaster conducted programmes, and risk management.

It is usually self-study through the PADI Divemaster Manual or Divemaster eLearning, followed by a final exam.

Water Skills and Assessments

Stamina exercises. A 400 m swim, an 800 m snorkel swim, a 15-minute tread, and a 100 m tired diver tow.

Rescue assessment. You demonstrate that you can manage a diver rescue situation — the single most important skill a dive leader has.

Skills workshop. You show proficiency across the range of scuba and skin diving skills, with a minimum score in each and a total of at least 82.

Practical Training

Practical skills and workshops. Dive site setup and management, mapping projects, dive briefings, search and recovery scenarios, and deep dive scenarios.

Conducted programmes. Workshops on the ReActivate programme, the Skin Diver course and snorkelling supervision, Discover Scuba Diving in confined water and on an additional open water dive, and Discover Local Diving.

Practical assessments. Hands-on experience assisting on real Open Water Diver and continuing education courses — helping students past specific problems underwater, and managing and supervising dives yourself.

Doing It With Us

Equipment rental is €15 per day if you need it, though over ten or twelve days most candidates are better off bringing their own kit.

FunnyDivers is one of the oldest dive centres in Hurghada, ISO certified, with our own boat and a daily rotation of two different reefs — which means a Divemaster candidate here sees a lot of water and a lot of different students in a short time.
