Ever wondered what it feels like to glide through clear water, meet the fish face to face and see a coral reef from the inside? Discover Scuba Diving is exactly that: a chance to experience breathing underwater without signing up for a full certification course.
It is a complete day of fun and learning — you get the magic of your first breath underwater, the basic safety rules and the practical skills that go with them, all under the direct supervision of a diving professional.
Who Can Join
There are no rigid prerequisites. A basic level of fitness and a minimum age of 10 years is all it takes. If you are in reasonable health and up for an adventure, this is your day.
Certain chronic health conditions need a doctor's clearance before diving — if you are unsure, tell us in advance and we will send you the standard diver medical form.
How the Day Runs
It starts with a briefing. We go through the safety guidelines, the hand signals divers use to talk to each other underwater, and the equipment you will be wearing.
Then you practise in a controlled environment — shallow, calm water where you learn to clear your mask, breathe steadily through the regulator and move around with fins on. Nothing happens until you are comfortable.
Once the basics are yours, you go for the real thing: an open water dive alongside your instructor, over living coral and among the reef fish. Maximum depth stays at 12 metres, which is where the colours are brightest anyway.
Getting the Most Out of It
Stay calm and breathe normally — diving is not a sport of effort, it is a sport of patience. Say something the moment anything feels off; your instructor is right there for exactly that reason.
Bring a swimsuit and a towel. We provide everything else. And if you want a head start, PADI's Discover Scuba Diving eLearning covers the theory before you even land in Egypt.
What Comes Next
Plenty of our Open Water Diver students started with a single intro dive. If the day leaves you wanting more, the dives you have just done can often be credited towards your certification course — ask your instructor on the boat.
Transfer. For hotels inside Hurghada, transfer to and from your hotel is free of charge. For hotels in Makadi Bay, Soma Bay, Sahl Hasheesh and El Gouna there is a surcharge of €20 per day per car. Rental equipment, where it is not already included, is €15 per day and person.
Each step builds on the one before it. Emergency First Response sits alongside the ladder rather than on it — it is a first aid course, required before Rescue Diver, and open to non-divers as well.
