Less than 15 minutes outside from Safaga there is Gamoul Soraya. It is the second in a chain of reefs which extend northwards from Safaga Island. It is roundish and 4 ergs hemed it in the south-east. Just two of this you can see it from the surface. You can go at every weather to Gamoul Soraya. If it is too rough to go to the outer reefs then this is the best place to make a good dive. The current is coming from north, divided up and flow along at both sides of the reef.

Dive directly to the ergs on southeast side of the reef but don’t forget on your way over there to have a look for the garden which is full of sand eels. The big erg which is very closed to the reef comes up from 13 meter depth, on the outside in 16 meters depth there is a hollow 6 – 7 meter high tower with a fan coral inside. 60 meter more southwards from here is a very nice erg which is looking like a horse-shoe and 70 meter more away from here you will find the best ergs of all. He reach from 18 meter depth until the surface and on the southside he is full with glass fishes, cardinal fishes and of course together with their enemies. After you finish the ergs have a look how much air you still have. If you have more then 100 bar you can dive around the reef if not you can start your way back to the boat. |
